Sept. 23-Passenger traffic up again at John Wayne,LA Times More travelers went through John Wayne Airport last month than ever before, airport officials reported Wednesday. In August, 872,271 travelers passed through the airport, an increase of more than 3% over August 2003, airport spokesman Justin McCusker said. That represents an 8% increase in commercial operations but a drop of 4.3% in total operations. General operations, including small plane and business travel, makes up 75% of the airport's passenger operations, McCusker said. Passenger levels have risen steadily since the county, Newport Beach and two community groups agreed last year to raise limits. The cap went up from 8.4 million to 10.3 million. "We're on pace to exceed 9 million passengers this year," McCusker said. Last year, 8.5 million passengers went through the airport, he said.
