Anti-airport plan set to take flight UNION-TRIBUNE June 29, 2006 A campaign against joint use of Miramar Marine Corps Air Station for an airport kicks off tomorrow at the Town & Country Hotel. Three businessmen, all retired military members, are leading an attack on the fall ballot measure that will ask the public to support the pursuit of Miramar. Bruce Boland, Frank Hewitt and Dwayne Junker are members of the San Diego Military Advisory Council, a group that split off from the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce two years ago. They have enlisted veteran political consultants John Dadian and Bob Schuman, along with fundraiser Kelli Medina, to spearhead their opposition effort, which they are calling, "Support Our Military – No on Miramar." They are planning to run a full campaign using media advertising, direct mail and grass-roots organizing, says Dadian, with the aim of creating a broad-based coalition against the proposal. © Copyright 2006 Union-Tribune Publishing Co. • |
