"Lindbergh Field operations flatten" Thursday, January 25, 2007 Airport operations flatten The San Diego (CA) Union Tribune San Diego International Airport just barely eked out a record passenger tally in 2006, after two years of above-average growth. The 17.5 million passengers flying in and out of Lindbergh Field last year was up 109,000, or 0.6 percent from the previous year. It follows robust increases of 7.3 percent in 2004 and 6.1 percent in 2005. The number of operations -- takeoffs, landings and a limited number of "overflights" that include aircraft simply moving through Lindbergh Field airspace -- was 220,800, up 0.3 percent from 2005. Airport officials peg Lindbergh's capacity as a single-runway airport at about 24 million passengers and roughly 280,000 operations per year. |
